Ryan Davis And The Roadhouse Band

Junk Drawer Heart

Ryan Davis And The Roadhouse Band

I spend a lot of time at the house
It's becoming something like a cult of my things

Together we sing in search of what the hurtin's about
Turns out it's somewhat of a tumultuous thing

So I make my way down to the bar
Lately it's the only place I like to go when it rains
But someone's been fuckin' with the jukebox again
Now it only plays the Sultans of Swing
(now it only plays the Sultans of Swing)

I'm sure there's something of use deep down
In a rubber band corner of my junk drawer heart
I just rarely ever open the thing
(I just rarely ever even open the thing)

Madeline moved herself to town last fall
Without telling or asking
That was not my bad

Now she's gone and locked herself in the bathroom
Fussin' and cryin'
About a thought I had

Her daddy was a hypnotist
Her mother was a metronome
Her mortal coil is not so much a curse
As it is a stepping stone

She knows there's something of use deep down
In a rare coin corner of her junk drawer heart
She's really made a mess of it though
(ahh, she's really gone and made a mess of it though)

I spend a lot of time at the house
I can admit that maybe certain parts of me have changed
And Madeline moved herself back to the city
And yes I guess perhaps I'm partially to blame

I had the thought of headin' back to the bar
But something deep inside of me starts to refrain
Someone's been rifling through the junk drawer again
And things get kind of tangled when
Your heart's rearranged

Its like chewin' on an apple in an archery range
Maybe there's something or use deep down
In the matchbook bottom of my junk drawer heart
Maybe there's nothing there but joker cards and keychains
(nothing but joker cards and keychains)
Nothing but joker cards and keychains

My things and I, we're singing
“smoke is just an unspoken apologv from a match”
My Madeline
I'm down here tryin' to take the whole damn jukebox apart
One 45 at a time

I know there's something of use deep down
In a rubber band corner of my junk drawer mind

I just don't know if find it in time
I just don't know if I'll ever find it in time
I just don't know if I'll ever find it in time
